Но отсутствие знаний, умений, опыта и четких целей мы компенсируем остроумием, ощу- щениями, догадками и неожиданными сужде- ниями. Это вызывает искреннее сочувствие и большой интерес. Это само по себе немало, и представляет большую ценность. Мы как бы идем своим путем, накапливаем открытия и знания, часто отличные от встречающегося в мировой практике. Разумеется, предложения такого рода приходится искать, на это спо- собен далеко не каждый. Тем радостнее для меня, по крайней мере, столкновение с от- крытиями. Жюри было единодушно в выборе победи- телей. Первые премии были отданы тем, кто попытался прежде всего выстроить собствен- ную картину пешеходной жизни, а специаль- ные премии были присуждены тем, кто отва- жился на яркое высказывание, жест, заслужив- ший внимания. Замечательно, что качественные выска- зывания в нашей жизни по-прежнему не ред- кость, а внепрактический, интеллектуальный итог в конечном счете может привести к види- мому результату. Замечательно, что российские архитекторы по-прежнему откли- каются на такие призывы – выска- зываться ради самих высказыва- ний, без надежды, что это когда-то будет реализовано, высказывать- ся только потому, что это важно для их самоощущения. Это свидетельство того, что мы не столь ци- ничны и бесчувственны, и что хотя и живем во времена сплошной коммерциализации, в нас не подавлено естественное для архитек- тора желание быть человеком миссии, рабо- тать во имя высоких целей и строить картину мира.

It is fine that Russian architects still respond to such invitations, i.e., to express themselves for the expressions’ sake, without a hope that it will be implemented some day, to express themselves only because it is important for their sense of self. The above mentioned indicates that we are not that cynical and dead-hearted. True, we live in the era of total commercialization, but the natural desire for any architect to be a man of mission and work for the sake of grand purposes and build a worldview has not been repressed in our self.

The future Museum Cluster has no walking itineraries, no numerous commercial institutions, instead it has powerful magnets, i.e., museums connected and divided by some indistinct ways. This is a special site where cultural institutions play the key role with their ranges of influence overlay and cross each other. Each time a pedestrian is jeopardized by transport. There have been neither stable flows, nor spatially formed clear ways. Discontinuous pathways are a challenge in these conditions different from that solved near the Kuznetsky Bridge and the Arbat. We have no experience in forming such space, and there are few examples in the whole world. The toolbox itself is barely familiar to us, and the task itself is tough and challenging. However, lack of expertise, skills, experience and clear objectives are overcome by ingenuity, perceptions, guesses and unexpected judgments, thus stirring true sympathy and keen interest. This is a great deal and valuable thing. As if we are going our way, accumulating discoveries and knowledge, often other than that in the global practice. Sure, proposals of the kind are hard to find, and few can meet the challenge. The more joy I, at least, feel when discover something. The panel of judges voted by common consent and selected the winners. The top awards were given to those who primarily tried to create their own view of pedestrian life. Special awards were given to those who were enough eloquent or made a noteworthy gesture. It is great that sound statements are still quite a regular thing in our life, and intellectual
