30 years ago, the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences was revived. This has become a milestone in the recent development of Russia, notifying the establishment of fundamental scientific approach in the current transformation of the country by means of architecture, urban development and construction sciences. It has been determined that the image of Russia’s future will be built based on the achievements in research and innovations, where the academic science and creative activity must play the major role. The academic idea in the field of architectural and urban planning culture was born in Russia in the time of Peter the Great, it was incubated during his reforms and put on paper by his own decree on December 11, 1724. The tradition of construction art academic research was developing in the Academy of Sciences and Arts in the first part of XVIII century from the times of Catherine the Great to the October Revolution and then at the State Academy of Artistic Sciences and associated institutions, with its avant garde aspirations in art and science. In 1930–1950, it was the All-Union Academy of Architecture and then the Academy of Construction and Architecture that created the last of all known in history outburst of neoclassicism, using its stately forms for solving the tasks of industrialization and recovery of the country after its victory in the Great Patriotic War. However, the late Soviet epoch, when the Academy was discontinued, did not destroy the academic continuity, both scientists and craftsmen maintained the high traditions of our profession. It made it much easier to restore the modern Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences. Today, the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences is one of the four State Academies of Sciences in the Russian Federation and the top research organization of Russia in the field of architecture, urban development and construction sciences, the Federal Scientific Center coordinating the fundamental research in architecture, urban development and construction sciences. It unites the best architects and scientists in the field of architectural, town planning and construction science.
