Among the names of the fourteenth centuгy а1·е those of Gautier de Bruceles, Renieг de Treit, Gautieг de Poulogne, and Jean de Laon, wllile Jean Harent of Calais is recOl'ded as having ,voгked, for Mme. d'A1·tois, iп 1319, а гоЬе decoгated "а bestelettes et а testes." These names prove that the art had been taught in many cities апd couпt1·ies: Ogieг de Gant, Jcan de Savoie, Etienne le Hongre, and Roger de Vareпnes, all suggest а cosmo politaп and dispcгsed пuшЬе1· of woгkeгs, who finally all appeared in Paris. Rene d'Anjoн l1ad in his employ а workeг iв embroid ery, named Рiе1те dн Villant. This aгtist executed а set of needlework pieces fOl' tlle Cathedгal of Angeгs, of such important pгopOl'tions that they wеге kno,Yn collectively as "La Grande Broderie." In 1462, ,vhen tЬеу \Yere put in place, а special mass was ре1·fогшеd Ьу way of а dedicatioв.
