This was in 1382, and there is no knowing how long the clock may have performed its functions in Courtray pгior to its removal to Dijoп. The great clock at Nuremberg slю,vs а procession of tЬе Seven Electors, ,vho соте out of one door, pass in froпt of the thгone, eacl1 tuгning and doing obeisance, and pass on through anotheг door. It is quite imposing, at noon, to watch this pгocession гepeated twelve times. The clock is called the Mannleinlauffen. In the Statutes of Francis I., there is а clause stating t.hat clockmakers as ,vell as goldsmiths were authorized to ешрlоу in their ,vork gold, silver, and all other materials. In \Vells Cathedral is а cшious clock, on which is а figure of а monarch, like Charles I., seated above the bell, ,vhich he kicks with l1is heels ,vhen the hour comes round. Не is popularly known as "Jack Вlandiver." TЬis clock came oгiginally from Glastonbury. On the hour а little tournament takes place, а race of little шounted knights rushing out in ciгcles and charging cach other vigoгoнsly.
