Сетевая структура Государственного центра совре- менного искусства выделяет его из других россий- ских институций, деятельность которых направле- на на развитие актуального культурного процесса. Уральский филиал инициировал в 2010 году круп- нейшее событие, которое стало яркой демонстра- цией амбиций и возможностей региона и вызвало широкий резонанс в международном профессио- нальном сообществе. Первая биеннале стала важным шагом по интеграции Урала в культурную карту оте- чественного и мирового современного искусства, сделала регион не просто узнаваемым, но местом притяжения для деятелей современного искусства со всего мира. В этом году биеннале проходит во второй раз, что свидетельствует о жизнеспособно- сти проекта – это не разовый фестиваль и не разо- вый успех, а внятно артикулированная точка на меж- дународной схеме биеннального движения. В этом году мы празднуем двадцатилетие изда- ния приказа Министерства культуры Российской Фе- дерации о создании Государственного центра совре- менного искусства, и в этот год проводятся два его крупнейших проекта – 3-я Московская международ- ная биеннале молодого искусства и 2-ая Уральская индустриальная биеннале современного искусства. Оба проекта активно развиваются, а проведение Уральской биеннале демонстрирует приоритет стра- тегии Центра в регионах России. В ближайших планах ГЦСИ– строительство пер- вого в нашей стране музея мирового современного искусства, и Уральская международная биеннале, развивающаяся в интернациональном культурном контексте, способствует решению этой задачи. Мы высоко ценим поддержку, оказываемую би- еннале учредителями – Министерством культуры Российской Федерации, Администрациями Сверд- ловской области и города Екатеринбурга, без чьей помощи была бы невозможна реализация такого масштабного события.

It is the networked structure of the National Center for Contemporary Arts that sets it apart from other institu- tions in Russia whose activities emphasize the develop- ment of contemporary cultural processes. The Urals af- filiate launched a large-scale event in 2010, which has become a vivid demonstration of the region’s ambitions and capabilities, and has come to resonate widely in the international arts community. The first biennale was an important step in the integration of the Urals within the cultural map of domestic and international contempo- rary art, and has heightened the region’s profile, but has transformed it into a destination for the international contemporary arts community. This year’s biennale, the second, is testimony to the project’s viability: it is nei- ther one-off festival nor one-time success, and, more- over, it clearly articulates a point on the international map of the biennale circuit. This year we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the promulgation of the order of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation that established the National Center for Contemporary Arts; this year it held two of its biggest projects: the Third Moscow Biennale for Young Art, and the Second Ural Industrial Biennial of Contem- porary Art. Both projects are being actively developed, and the establishment of the Ural Biennial indicates the Center’s strategic priorities for Russia’s regions. In the near future the NCCA will continue build- ing the country’s first museum of international contem- porary art; and the Ural international biennale, which is being developed within an global cultural context, con- tributes to the resolution of this task. We greatly appreciate the support provided by the founders of the biennale: the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Administration of the Sverdlovsk Region, and the city of Ekaterinburg, without whose help the implementation of such a large-scale event would be impossible.
