Триумфальная — площадь молодости, свободы и романтики, а также первое общественное пространство такого зна‑ чения в центре города, которое было пе‑ ределано после появления в столице но‑ вого мэра Сергея Собянина. Структура площади изменилась, чтобы создать про‑ странство, удобное для пешеходов, озе‑ ленение и малые архитектурные формы задали границы, качели стали новым го‑ родским символом и самым популярным аттракционом к северу от Макдоналдса на Пушкинской. Простым благоустрой‑ ством отделаться было нельзя, нужно было вернуть площади значительность. В качестве манифеста для проекта был выбран девиз легендарной литератур‑ ной группы, выходившей на площадь в 1960‑е — СМОГ. В это неформальное объединение входили Леонид Губанов, Юрий Кублановский, Саша Соколов и другие, а одним из многих способов расшифровать аббревиатуру были слова «Смелость, Мысль, Образ, Глубина».

Triumfalnaya Square is an area of youth, freedom and romance, as well as the first public space of such importance inMoscow’s downtown, having been redesigned after the election of the capital’s new mayor — Mr. Sergey Sobyanin. The Square’s structure was amended to create an expanse for pedestri‑ ans, the landscaping and street furniture de‑ fined the boundaries, swings became a new symbol of the city and the most popular tourist attraction north of the Pushkinskaya Square McDonald’s site. A simple municipal improvement would not cut it, the square needed to get its status back. The project as‑ sumed the motto of the legendary literary group, which chose the square for its place of meeting in the 1960’s — ACHIEVED (“SMOG” in Russian). This informal associ‑ ation comprised such artists as Leonid Gu‑ banov, Yuriy Kublanovskiy, Sasha Sokolov et al., while one of the various ways of inter‑ preting the SMOG title was to assume that it’s an acronym of Russian words for “Cour‑ age”, “Thought”, “Image”, and “Depth”.
