Летом главная аллея ВДНХ — попу- лярная у москвичей прогулочная зона с фонтанами, а зимой — транзитная, ведущая к «самому большому в мире» катку за Центральным павильоном. Придать этому пространству другое ка- чество в холодные и тёмные месяцы по- могло «звёздное небо» из лампочек, про- веренный временем и любимый у всех парковых администраций приём. В про- екте бюро лампочки стали объёмными гирляндами из диодных сеток, связан- ными с ритмом и пропорциями окру- жающей архитектуры, а 27-метровая ёлка, вставшая в конце аллеи, — подни- мающим градус эйфории акцентом всей композиции, пунктом назначения.

In summer, the VDNH’s central avenue is a popular outdoors hang-out area for Mus- covites who like to take a walk among the fountains, while in winter it is a pedestri- an transit thoroughfare for visitors of “the world’s largest skating rink” at the Cen- tral Pavilion. Imparting a different quali- ty to this space in the cold and dark winter months was achieved through the imple- menting of a “starry sky” comprised of elec- tric lights — a tried and true solution that all public park administrations love to use. The Bureau’s project replaced the ubiqui- tous lamp posts with voluminous garlands of diode nets reflecting the rhythm and pro- portions of the surrounding architecture, while a 27-meter high Christmas tree set up at the end of the avenue served as the en- tire composition’s emphasis, raising the de- gree of its cheerfulness and highlighting the point of destination.
