At the time of its creation, this interior became an absolute breakthrough. The Soviet period was barely over and there was nothing like that in the surrounding reality yet, least of all in the private interior design. For the first time ever, this project introduced certain techniques that later defined characteristic features of “daringly innovative” interior design projects in Russia. First of all, this was a studio-type solution with a freely flowing, unified space. Then, there were simple and cheap finishing materials, namely cement bonded particle boards, deal boards and construction ferrous metal. But most importantly, there came that voidness and lightness of the space and the feeling of breathing freely within. In order to achieve this in a small area, the first thing that was done was arranging all the functional units around the perimeter, which helped lighten the remaining area and expand it visually. And, secondly, the podium was built to make a second level and enrich the interior. The unusual horizontal closet was fitted beneath. The staircase to the non-existent attic was the manifestation of the game approach and a purely literary finding that embellished the designer’s laconic solution.
