Этот образ отсылает не только к футляру для драгоценностей: пробыв здесь какое-то время, посетитель начинает ощущать себя в толще пласта, где в каком-то неве- домом порядке расположились давным-давно все эти предметы. Про- резают темноту только стеклянные призмы-фонари, пронизывающие несколько этажей, выведенные на крышу и днем освещающие залы солнечными лучами; на них к тому же помещаются информационные таблицы. The building has been designed in such a way that all office premises, shops and other customary facilities are located on the ground floor near the rear facade, where natural light penetrates into; the second floor, which is also rather well-lit, houses halls for temporary ex- hibition, while top floors without windows are dedicated to historical relics. Working on the design the architect insisted that architecture of such a unique institution should be more than a mere organizing element and should not produce beauty for the sake of beauty; it should become an instrument to evoke ghosts of people and places out of one single bead or plate, which have survived through cobwebs of various epochs and speak of the fragility of time in the first place. In the permanent exhi- bition hall all horizontal surfaces are dark: the almost black wood of floors echoes the ceiling, which is painted black, too.
