line of the new complex is accounted for by the necessity to retain an existing system of dominating elements, which are the Krem- lin tower, the Cathedral of Christ the Sav- iour, the Church of Elijah the Prophet, and the Conception Convent. The main composi- tional concept was to shift the two blocks of the frontline deeper, to the Kursovoy Lane. The building with three and four storeys is extended along the Kursovoy Lane, and the shifted structures seem to cover it. In the space between them a system of landscaped yards has been created. The ensemble con- sists of five buildings with a varying num- ber of storeys, which share the stylobate and an underground parking. In simple and pre- cise silhouettes of the buildings, in the com- bination of natural stone with glass and ar- rangement of the facade characteristic of the past one could notice principles of a single esthetical concept, which was developed for this neighbourhood by several architectur- al bureaus, including Sergey Skuratov Archi-

tects. Not trying to flirt with historical styles, but by applying comprehensible architectur- al language architects found an perfect form for a contemporary multifunctional complex. Nothing external would give out all the func- tions of the building, which hosts offices, luxury apartments, a shopping centre and a restaurant. Vertical elements of its arrange- ment resonate with the rhythm of the fa- cades of the Red October factory located op- posite.
