Приезжая в Пермь, гость видит расположенный на берегу реки но- вый музей. Словно нить, вплетённая в ковёр, здание тянется вниз к реке, а вверху на плато по склону берега ритмично чередуется ряд стен, соединяющих музей с парком и новым районом у шлюза на Каме. Эти два направления в композиции, образующиеся благодаря про- тяжённым стенам музея, простирающимся с запада на восток, со сто- роны воспринимаются, как вибрирующая сотканная сеть, уложенная под углом к берегу реки. Эта идея воплощается в материалах внешней отделки. Благодаря тому, что мосты и крыши выполнены из стали и стекла, а стены – из бе- тона, при вечернем освещении музей смотрится словно ряд установ- ленных на стене светящихся светильников из стекла. Сам вход в музей определяется изогнутыми стенами, посетители входят в него через парк. Здесь посетители попадают в самое длинное помещение музея, фойе со своими изогнутыми стенами и варьирующейся высотой по- толка, его пространство разбивается на части шестью мостами. Внутри музея впечатление создаётся вариациями пространства: от более тёмных сконцентрированных галерей к свету фойе и отдельным специальным функциям, установленным на мостах с видом на реку.

Coming to Perm, the visitors see the building of the new Mu- seum located on the bank of the river. As if a thread inwoven in a carpet, the building stretches down to the river. A little higher on the plateau of the riverside slope there are rhythmically in- termittent rows of walls, connecting the Museum with the park and the new district near the lock on the Kama River. These two directions in the compositional solution, formed by the extended walls of the Museum and stretching from west to east, are perceived by a casual observer as a vibrating weaved network reclined at a certain angle to the bank of the river. The same idea is embodied in materials used for the external finishing. Because all the bridges and roofs are made of steel and glass, and all the walls are built of concrete, in the eve- nings the museum looks as if a row of luminous glass lanterns are placed on a big wall. The main entrance to the Museum is outlined by the curved walls and the visitors come here through the park. Immediately after entering the Museum the visitors find themselves in its longest room – a foyer with the curved walls and the varying height of the ceiling. The volume of the foyer is segmented by six bridges. Inside the Museum a unique impression is created by the vari- ations of spaces: from the darker galleries to the lighter foyer and by separate special functions of the bridges, which open a wonderful view on the river.
