интерес к сооружению олимпийских объектов. Каким вам видится город, в котором будет проходить Олимпиада? Красивым. Я бы взял в пример китайцев. Мне нравятся их олимпий- ские объекты. Они пригласили мировых звезд, которые не схалтурили, а сделали интересные проекты. А сейчас в Сочи интрига, идет борьба за заказы. Дело в том, что презентационный проект для Сочи делала фирма ХОК. Говорят: «Это же наш успех, и мы будем проектировать!» Тут проснулись наши большие архитекторы и заволновались: «Как же так? А мы? Мы же сделаем лучше. Да вот посмотрите…» И начали бо- роться за заказ. Не поздно ли? Какой из последних своих проектов Вы считаете наиболее удачным? Сложно сказать. Так же сложно,как ответить на вопрос, кого из своих детей ты больше любишь? Кто из них лучше получился? Мне нравится сам архитектурный процесс, творчество, а когда объект за- кончен, ты теряешь к нему всякий интерес. И потом, если бы меня как архитектора все устраивало, каким же я после этого был профессио- налом? По социологическим данным, в России все больше людей со- гласны с утверждением, что «эпоха перемен» заканчивается. А как Вы это ощущаете? Как поведет себя отечественная архитек- тура в новых общественно-политических условиях? Каков ваш прогноз? Я считаю, что эпоха перемен уже закончилась. Появилась стабиль- ность и в экономике, и в архитектуре. Все постепенно обуржуазились. Хорошо это или плохо, я не знаю. Сейчас каждый занял свою нишу, появилась предсказуемость, а надо, чтобы жизнь бурлила. Каким Вы видите путь развития вашей архитектуры? Хорошим, счастливым, долгим! Очень хотелось бы на это надеяться…

And they will do their best. And Foster seems to be a pot-boiler... He came over to be displayed as an icon. The same thing with Zaha Hadid. Maybe they consider working in Russia not to be prestigious enough, since who would be able to appreciate their level, their idea, their architecture, if everywhere in the country there is «soap architecture» only? Do you find any of contemporary architects interesting? Anyone whose architectural projects seem to look forward into the future? Jean Nouvel, Steven Hall. I have recently came across very interesting architecture full of deep philosophic meaning – that one of Peter Zumthor. I am interested in Foster’s works, but mostly his early works. Zaha Hadid, his early works. The Olympic games will be held in Sochi in 2014, and in connection to that the interest to Olympic objects deepens. What is your vision of the city to host the Olympics? It should be a beautiful city. I would follow the example set by the Chinese. I like their Olympic objects. They invited world stars, who did not potboil, but created interesting projects. And at this time there is a web of intrigue in Sochi, architects compete for orders. The thing is, the presentation project for Sochi has been developed by a company named «HOK». They say, «The success is ours, and we will design the objects!» Then our prominent architects wake up and start worrying, «How come? And what about us? We can do it better. Here, have a look...» And they start competing for the order. But isn’t it too late? Which of your recent projects do you believe to be the most successful? This is difficult to answer. It is as difficult as answering the question, who of your children you love more. Who of the children turned out to be better? I like the architectural process itself, I like creative work, and when the work on some object is over, I am not interested in it any longer. And, if being an architect I would be satisfied with everything, what kind of professional would I be? According to poll data, more and more people in Russia agree, that the «period of changes» comes to its end. How do you feel? How will the Russian architecture develop in these new social and political conditions? What is your forecast? I believe that the changes are over. Both economy and architecture have become stable. Everyone has gradually turned into bourgeoisie. I do not know if it is good or bad. Nowadays everyone has settled in his own niche, things are predictable, but life should boil up.

What do you think, how will your architecture develop? It will be a good, happy, long way! I would like to hope so.
