Frida Escobedo’s work generally, but almost coincidentally, has developed in the context places that could be considered as residual or under-used. The fact that she works continuously within a context where there is a strong pre-existence, has made her ques- tion certain notions related to architecture –such as temporality and materiality, as well as the relationship that exists between individuals, their conditions within collective life, and their physical manifestation in certain spatial practices. Escobedo believes the ar- chitectural object is, in the end, non-coincidental with itself. To put it in other words, it is in perpetual change since the moment of its conception and is therefore born obsolete, but at the same time it will always be an oeuvre ouverte, an open work that is perma- nently incomplete. But it is precisely that duality which allows it to work as a mnemonic tool, as a record of both social and historical times.
