Yakov Chernikhov himself dealt with fundamental science, studied problems of shaping in modern architecture, thus pushing its boundaries. I think that this Prize is even more necessary now, when most of the people are just earning money and deals with some utilitarian things and we forget that there is such thing as future. This is a very important prize for the young generation who understands that architecture is not only about square meters but first of all organization of space, art, philosophy and life in general. You can only discover something new if you think like that. I worked in the award board at many contests and I can say that the level of the works at the contest is very high. The choice was hard. About 30 per cent are good professional works. All the other works are very interesting experimental works and it is difficult to imagine this is architecture, it is more like biology, chemistry of philosophy. When we dealt with paper architecture, we also thought that nobody will ever build it, that’s why it was called paper architecture. But now it is real and normal. The progress is very fast. I think the future will be exactly like what we see in the contestant’s works. This is such a diversity in architecture. The technologies are very well thought out, everything is built very fast and there is nothing impossible. It is hard to distinguish, what is architecture. I think the architecture of the future is all about individuals. There will not be any common style, probably, but there will be many masters creating their own styles like in the world of haute couture. All the more that the new technologies and materials allow that. Сам Яков Чернихов занимался фундаментальной наукой, исследовал проблемы формоо- бразования современной архитектуры, расширяя тем самым ее границы. И мне кажется, что эта Премия особенно необходима в наше время, когда основная часть людей занима- ется зарабатыванием денег, какими-то утилитарными вещами и мы забываем, что есть будущее. Это очень важная Премия для молодежи, понимающей, что архитетктура – не только квадратные метры, а прежде всего организация пространства, искусство, филосо- фия и вообще жизнь. Только с таким подходом можно прийти к новым открытиям. Я работал в жюри на многих конкурсах и могу сказать, что уровень присланных работ очень высокий и качественный. Выбор был сложным. Totan Kuzembaev was born in the Arys region of Chimkent oblast of Kazakhstan. He graduated from Moscow Architectural Institute (1982). From 1982 till 2002 worked as architect in different project institutes and private design studios. In 2002 he founded a private architectural studio. He is a member of Russian Union of Architects. He gained fame as the author of small private houses on the territory of the former Klyazma pension. He participated in numerous Russian and international contests and exhibitions. He has been laureate of international festival ABC of country development. Totan Kuzembaev took part in the Paper Architecture exhibition in Paris (1988) and Frankfurt-am-Main (1989). He had his personal exhibition in Oslo (1990) He holds first prize of the JA journal Stronghold of Resistance (1983) and Museum of Architecture (1984). He lives and works in Moscow.

интересных экспериментальных работ, и трудно себе даже представить, что это архитектура, скорее, это область биологии или химии, философии. Когда мы занимались бумажной архитектурой, нам тоже казалось, что это никто никогда не построит, поэтому она и называлась бумажной. Но сейчас все реально и стало обыденностью. Прогресс двигается вперед очень быстро. Мне кажется, будущее будет именно таким, каким оно представлено в проектах участников Премии. Такое раз- нообразие архитектуры. Технологии уже настолько хорошо проработаны, все быстро строится и ничего невозможного нет. Трудно уже определить, что такое есть архитектура. Думаю, архитектура будущего – это становление индиви- дуальных личностей. Какого-то общего стиля не будет, наверное, а будет очень много мастеров, создающих свой собственный стиль, как кутюрье в области высокой моды. Тем более, что это позволяют возможности новых техно- логий и материалов.

Родился в 1953 году в Арысском районе Чимкентской области Казах- стана. Окончил Московский архи- тектурный институт (1982). с 1982 по 2002 годы работал архитектором в различных проектных институтах и частных дизайн-студиях. С 2002 года основал персональную архи- тектурную мастерскую. Член Союза архитекторов России. Получил известность как автор небольших частных домов на территории быв- шего Клязьминского пансионата. Участник многочисленных россий- ских и международных конкурсов и смотров. Неоднократный лауреат международного фестиваля «Аз- бука загородного строительства». Участник выставки «Бумажная архитектура» в Париже (1988) и во Франкфурте-на-Майне (1989). Персональная выставка в Осло (1990). Обладатель первой премии журнала JA «Оплот сопротивления» (1983) и поощрительной премии журнала JA «Музей архитектуры» (1984). Живет и работает в Москве.
