Название заведения полностью отражает его функцию, предполагающую употребление про- стых крепких напитков, и потому авторы решили усилить их действие, кружа посетителям го- лову уже с порога. Мысленно проведённая по горизонтали на уровне глаз плоскость делит по- мещение на две абсолютно идентичные части — верх и низ. Небольшое отличие состоит в том, что поверхности верхних столов светятся, но поскольку поверхности столов нижних этот свет отражают, то разницу можно считать минимальной, а эффект — сногсшибательным. Эсте- тическое прочтение этих столов для стоячего выпивания отсылает к шахматным фигурам — и по материалу, и по пропорциям, и по расстановке — что сбивает масштаб, и поскольку дру- гие размерные ориентиры здесь отсутствуют, а приставленные к стенам половинчатые объёмы столов резко обрывают и зрительно ограничивают пространство рюмочной, то посетитель ока- зывается внутри коробки, шкатулки, табакерки — и вот ещё один реализованный архетипиче- ский литературный образ.

The name of the pub fully reflects its function, which involves serving alcoholic beverage. Therefore the authors decided to strengthen alcohol’s illusory effects by making the visitors feel lightheaded and puzzled right from the doorway. A horizontal imaginary line drawn at eye level divides the room into two absolutely identical planes — top and bottom. A slight difference is that the surfaces of the “upper tables” glow. However, the surfaces of the lower tables reflect this light, so the difference is minimal, but the effect is stunning. The bottom tables are designed for drinking alcohol while standing. They are visually perceived as chess pieces, imitating the material, proportions, and arrangement of the lat- ter. As a result the size of the room seems to have grown much larger since there are no other refer- ence points. The half-tables attached to the walls sharply cut off the volume and visually limit the Par- lor space. As a consequence, the visitors seem to be trapped inside a jewelry casket or a snuff-box — and this is another realized archetypal literary image.
